Montesilvano is a charming Abruzzese resort town located just under ten kilometres from Pescara, with which it shares a beautiful coastline. The town is actually divided into Montesilvano Colli, the older part, and Montesilvano Marina, the newer area that developed near the coast and where a thriving tourist industry has flourished in recent years.

The historic centre sits on elevated ground and comprises a small medieval village characterised by cobbled streets, historic palaces and beautiful ancient churches, whilst Montesilvano Marina developed from the mid-nineteenth century following the opening of the Adriatic Railway and Montesilvano railway station, around which a new urban settlement began to grow.

An ideal destination for visitors seeking a journey combining history, nature and relaxation, Montesilvano is a vibrant and dynamic town that is not only considered one of the region’s finest seaside resorts but also offers easy access to other attractions in the area, including Maiella National Park and Gran Sasso National Park.

Montesilvano Beach

Montesilvano became a famous seaside destination during the Fascist era, when the Stella Matutina colony (also known as “Stella Maris”) was built on the Lungomare Aldo Moro promenade to accommodate the families of Fascist party members during summer holidays. This stretch of coast features a wide sandy beach with soft, golden sand, whilst the sea water is crystal clear and the seabed is shallow.

Surrounded by the greenery of the Pineta di Santa Filomena pine forest, Montesilvano Marina is considered one of Abruzzo’s most sought-after beaches, also thanks to the system of artificial breakwaters protecting the entire seafront. The shoreline is well organised with both free beach areas and facilities including bathing establishments, services, bars and restaurants. Due to these features, Montesilvano beach has received both the Blue Flag and Green Flag awards on multiple occasions, confirming its suitability for families with children.

The town’s seafront also hosts the Adriatic Cycle Route, also known as the Adriatic Green Corridor, an 8 km route for walking or cycling that connects Montesilvano’s coast to that of Pescara.

Montesilvano Colli is the oldest part of the town, situated on a hilltop from which you can admire magnificent views of the surrounding countryside, stretching from the Adriatic coast to the Gran Sasso massif. Its historic centre preserves stately buildings and truly ancient churches such as the Church of Madonna della Neve, dating back to the thirteenth century, and the parish Church of San Michele Arcangelo, founded in the twelfth century and substantially modified in the eighteenth century.
