Pescara Airport

The Pescara International Airport (IATA code: PSR) is also known as Abruzzo International Airport “Pasquale Liberi”. Its strategic location makes this airport popular with travellers not only from Abruzzo, but also from neighbouring regions such as Molise, Marche and the Gargano area.

The Abruzzo airport has a single terminal housing various passenger services (car hire, tour operators, duty-free shops, etc.) as well as shops, bars and restaurants. The airport is connected via low-cost airlines and scheduled flights to many cities in both Italy and Europe, such as Kraków, Brussels, Prague and Frankfurt.

Getting to and from Pescara Airport

From Pescara Airport you can easily reach not only the city centre but also other towns in both the region and southern Italy. The airport is located just over 4 km from Pescara’s city centre, 13 km from Chieti, 65 km from Teramo and 120 km from L’Aquila.

The airport has several car hire agencies and car parks for both short and long-term parking. If you’re planning a stay that covers several Abruzzo towns, we’d recommend hiring a car to give you more flexibility with your transfers.

Getting to/from Pescara

Given its proximity to the city centre, reaching Pescara’s centre from the airport by car is straightforward: you can hire a car or take a bus. To reach Pescara’s centre from the airport by car, take the E80 towards Via Tiburtina Valeria/SR5 until the exit for Sambuceto/Airport.

For those preferring public transport, there are bus services run by the TUA company operating from the arrivals terminal to Pescara’s railway station or city centre. In particular, lines 8 and 38 run daily with departures every 20 minutes.

Finally, given the very short distance, you can also reach the centre by taxi, which allows you to travel to your final destination in comfort. Taxis operate on fixed, predetermined fares for established urban and suburban routes, inclusive of all extra charges (night surcharge, weekend supplement, luggage, pets, etc.)

Getting to/from other destinations

Pescara Pasquale Liberi Airport is also easily accessible by car from other local areas. In particular, from Rome – Avezzano you can take the A24/A25 motorway, exit at Chieti-Pescara and then join “the equipped axis” heading towards Pescara. From L’Aquila, instead, you need to travel on the SS 17 to Bussi and from there take the A25 towards Pescara.

The Abruzzo airport is also connected via public transport to the main cities not only in the region but in southern Italy. In particular, towns such as Chieti, L’Aquila, Teramo and Ortona are served by buses from the TUA and SATAM companies. There are also connections to Salerno, Sorrento, Catania, Positano, San Severo, Vieste and Foggia both via TUA and SATAM and via other private operators.
