Things to do in Campomarino

Famous as a seaside resort, the village of Campomarino also preserves an interesting historical and architectural heritage worth discovering. One of Campomarino’s finest features is the presence of valuable murals that tell the story of the customs and traditions of the Albanian community in Italy. The walls of many buildings are decorated with representations of the life, activities and traditions of this population.

Walking through the town’s streets, you cannot help but be amazed by the numerous churches and ancient palaces. The heart of the old town is Piazza Vittorio Veneto, where you’ll find a wonderful viewpoint offering views over the Adriatic coast.

Among the must-see stops is the Church of Santa Maria a Mare, also known as the “Old Church”. The religious building has medieval origins, but has undergone various alterations, with its current appearance dating from the 18th century. Inside, the church houses a relic of Santa Cristina, patron saint of Campomarino, and a bust of the saint. Nearby stands the Church of the Holy Spirit, commonly known as the “new church” because it was built in 1995.

Every year on 24 July, the town celebrates Santa Cristina, its patron saint, with a much-loved religious procession. This is also an opportunity to organise musical performances, events and other festivities.
