Whatever your holiday plans, you cannot miss a visit to the stunning city of L’Aquila, which not only serves as the regional capital but also houses an ancient historical heritage. The city is also an excellent base for visiting other nearby attractions such as the beautiful Rocca Calascio, Abruzzo National Park and Gran Sasso National Park.
If you’re coming to Abruzzo for a peaceful holiday in nature, we recommend choosing one of the towns within or near the region’s main parks. Towns like Pescasseroli, Civitella Alfedena, Barrea or Castel di Sangro are perfect for visiting Abruzzo National Park, while villages like Santo Stefano di Sessanio, Barisciano or Rocca Calascio are ideal for visiting Gran Sasso National Park.
For a holiday focused on sea and relaxation, Abruzzo boasts approximately 130 km of coastline featuring wonderful seaside resorts offering various types of accommodation. Towns such as Montesilvano and Silvi are strategically well-placed since, besides being charming coastal towns, they also provide easy access to Maiella Park or Gran Sasso Park.

The best hotels in Abruzzo
The Pescara coast is characterised by three lively towns: Pescara, Montesilvano and Francavilla al Mare. The presence of Pescara, a vibrant and dynamic town that hosts Abruzzo Airport, makes this area one of the most visited in the region, with numerous hotel facilities available.
Many people also choose to stay in the small towns of Montesilvano and Francavilla, which are situated a short distance from Pescara but offer equally excellent services.

Located within the Gran Sasso National Park, Campo Imperatore is a plateau that spans several municipalities including Calascio, Castel del Monte, L’Aquila and Santo Stefano di Sessanio. Accessible via the historic Funivia del Gran Sasso d’Italia cable car, considered one of Europe’s longest, Campo Imperatore offers its guests 20 km of pistes at various levels, 60 km of cross-country ski trails and several alpine ski touring routes.
Campo Imperatore is also part of the Tre Nevi ski area, which includes the ski resorts of Campo Felice and Ovindoli-Monte Magnola. Thanks to its spectacular scenery, Campo Imperatore is also known as the “Little Tibet” and attracts many visitors during the summer season as well.
At Campo Imperatore, you can organise various outdoor activities such as hiking, mountaineering, mountain biking or horseback riding. Ovindoli is a small Abruzzese town located in the so-called “Altopiano delle Rocche” within the Velino-Sirente Natural Park. This village, perched at 1,375 metres altitude, is an important tourist centre that attracts many winter sports enthusiasts in winter. The ski facilities of Ovindoli (also known as “Ovindoli – Monte Magnola facilities”) are located about 2 km from the town centre and offer approximately 30 km of pistes and a beautiful snowpark.
Completely surrounded by high Apennine peaks, Ovindoli is a town that attracts many visitors during the summer season too, as people come here to escape the heat of the cities. Ovindoli offers its visitors not only the opportunity to take part in various outdoor activities, such as trekking, mountain biking or horseback riding, but also the chance to visit several nearby attractions such as the Gole di Aielli – Celano.
